3rd Grade

Welcome to 3rd Grade with Mrs. Waller

Trip

I can’t believe it is May already.  Only about 35 more days of school left!!!  We have a lot to do in this short amount of time.  I have been telling the children that they are no longer 3rd graders but are now official “4th graders in training”.  I am so proud of all they have learned this year and how much they have grown and how much they will continue to grow over these next 35 days.  Please reinforce that we are still in school and still learning until June 18th. ( some fun events will be happening along the way J!)

We are continuing to work on fractions in math and will be comparing and ordering fractions and learning how to make equivalent fractions.  In ELA we continue our ELA program and will focus a lot on the proper way to answer questions with evidence.  In Social Studies we will be learning about culture and Ellis Island.

The field trip to the Bronx Zoo is on Wednesday, May 8th.  All children should wear their OLQA family of families shirt with OLQA gym sweats or shorts (we will be outside ALL DAY so please dress appropriately) and sneakers.  If you are not accompanying your child on the trip please make sure to send them with a brown bag lunch and a backpack or bag that they can carry their lunch in.  If you are attending the trip with your child you may pack or purchase lunch.  (There is no place to store lunches for the day so they must be carried)  Please see additional note at the end of the week with more details about the trip.

May 2nd- Help needed from 3rd graders for 2nd grade communion retreat Thursday, May 9th 6-8pm!!  Please email Father John or myself if you are available.

ALL MULTIPLICATION FACTS SHOULD BE MEMORIZED!

We can use some more index cards, post it notes and children scissors in the classroom if anyone has any extra they would like to donate.

Please encourage your child to write in script when you can.  We will be writing every morning in script in class.  Please remember that all children must be in full uniform each day.  All shirts should be tucked in, black school shoes worn, ties and belts for the boys.  We also will be going outside during recess daily so proper winter coats and hats should be brought in daily.
